Frequently Asked Questions

Don't panic! At Castleberry Dental, we understand that clear aligners are small and can occasionally be misplaced. Dr. C and our team are here to help you get back on track with your treatment.

Talk with Our Team

First, contact our Ellsworth dental office right away. The sooner we know about your lost aligner, the faster we can determine the best solution for your specific situation. Time is crucial because you don't want your teeth to shift back out of position.

Your next step depends on where you are in your treatment. If you've been wearing the lost aligner for most of its recommended time (usually about two weeks), Dr. C may advise you to move forward to your next set of aligners. However, if you just started wearing that particular aligner, you might need to temporarily switch back to your previous set to maintain your progress.

We may need to order a replacement aligner from the manufacturer. While this typically takes a few weeks, we'll provide clear instructions on what to do in the meantime to prevent any setback in your treatment.

How to Protect Your Clear Aligners

Prevention tips: Always store your aligners in their protective case when not in use, never wrap them in napkins at restaurants, and avoid placing them in pockets where they could fall out. Consider keeping your previous set of aligners as a backup.

Remember, losing an aligner occasionally happens to many patients. Just reach out to us at Castleberry Dental at (207) 374-5538, and we'll work together to keep your smile transformation on schedule!

How Do Clear Aligners Work?

Instead of attaching brackets and wires to your teeth, Dr. C creates custom plastic aligners based on his treatment plan for building your new smile. You’ll wear your aligners for two weeks and change to the next set in the series at home, making clear aligners super convenient.

You can remove the aligners for meals, brushing, and flossing, so no changes to your diet or home care routine are needed during treatment.

Dr. C will check in with you periodically throughout your treatment to ensure that your teeth are progressing and your plan is on track. Most patients finish treatment with clear aligners in 10 to 18 months, depending on their needs.

Clear Aligners Technology

Digital Impressions

Dr. C offers comfortable digital impression technology at Castleberry Dental, eliminating the mess of traditional molds. Using a state-of-the-art intraoral scanner, we capture precise 3-D images of your teeth in minutes without gag-inducing trays or unpleasant materials.

These highly accurate digital impressions ensure better-fitting crowns, bridges, and aligners while reducing appointment times. The images can be instantly shared with dental labs, speeding up your treatment process.

Which Problems Can Clear Aligners Fix?

Aside from complex bite concerns, clear aligners work well for most patients. Here are some of the common problems we can eliminate with them:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Teeth that overlap
  • Crossbite

Dr. C can determine whether clear aligners are right for you during an evaluation, during which he will gather information through photos, x-rays, a thorough exam, and 3-D imaging. He’ll use this information to create a treatment plan if you decide to move forward with clear aligners.

If you’re not a candidate for clear aligners, Dr. C will discuss your other treatment options with you.
