Dental Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is one of the best options Dr. C can use to repair a decayed, fractured, or broken tooth. With our state-of-the-art CEREC technology, he can design, mill, and place a new crown in a single appointment at our Ellsworth dental office, so you don’t have to wait weeks for your new restoration.

We can also use CEREC technology to fabricate a dental bridge, which replaces one or more adjacent missing teeth. If you are missing teeth, Dr. C can determine whether a bridge or a dental implant is the best option for your needs. We offer comprehensive implant dentistry at Castleberry Dental.

What Are the Advantages of Same-Day CEREC Crowns?

CEREC technology offers several benefits that our patients love.

No more waiting for weeks to receive your new restoration. A CEREC crown can be completed in a single visit to our Ellsworth dental office.
No Impressions
You don’t have to endure the uncomfortable aliginate impressions we took in the past. CEREC uses 3-D imaging for impressions.
The Utmost Quality
CEREC crowns are made of exceptional ceramic porcelain material, providing excellent durability and appealing aesthetics.
No Temporaries
You won’t have to live through weeks of wearing a temporary crown and waiting for your new tooth with CEREC restorations.
Excellent Precision
CEREC’s 3-D imaging allows Dr. C to design dental crowns and bridges to his exact specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you're missing a tooth, Dr. C can help restore your smile using either a dental bridge or a dental implant. Both are excellent options, but they work in different ways and offer distinct advantages.

Bridging the Gap

A dental bridge literally "bridges" the gap left by a lost tooth. This restoration attaches to the natural teeth on both sides of the gap, using them as anchors. The bridge includes a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that fills the space, creating a seamless appearance. While bridges are a time-tested solution, they do require reshaping the adjacent teeth to support the restoration.

Understanding Dental Implants

A dental implant is a standalone replacement that doesn't rely on neighboring teeth. Dr. C places a biocompatible titanium post into your jawbone, which acts as a prosthetic tooth root. Once your implant is fully integrated with your bone, a custom crown is attached to the implant, giving you a replacement tooth that functions independently.

Key differences include:

  • Impact on adjacent teeth — Bridges require altering healthy neighboring teeth, while implants preserve them completely.
  • Bone preservation — Implants stimulate the jawbone like natural tooth roots, preventing bone loss. Bridges don't provide this stimulation.
  • Longevity — Implants can last a lifetime with proper care, while bridges typically need replacement after 10-15 years.
  • Treatment time — Bridges can be completed in a few weeks, while implants require several months for full integration.

How Do Same-Day Crowns Work?

CEREC uses 3-D imaging to scan your compromised tooth, which Dr. C then uses to design and create a custom porcelain crown. He sends his exact specifications to our in-house milling machine, which uses high-quality ceramic porcelain to mill your new tooth while you wait.

When it’s ready, Dr. C permanently places the crown and makes any necessary adjustments to your bite to ensure you enjoy the same chewing function you had before your tooth was compromised.

Our patients love the efficiency, quality, and durability of CEREC same-day crowns.

When Do We Recommend Crowns and Bridges?

A crown is designed to cover a damaged tooth entirely, extending to the gumline. It restores the tooth’s shape, shade, and function, and complements your smile. Dr. C may suggest a dental crown in these situations:

  • To restore a severely decayed or fractured tooth
  • To replace a large lost or broken filling
  • To top a dental implant
  • To rebuild a tooth with a root canal
  • To enhance a tooth with aesthetic imperfections

A dental bridge uses two crowns as anchors for one or multiple prosthetic teeth in between. The crowns connect to healthy teeth with prosthetic teeth bridging the gap left by missing teeth, restoring chewing function and aesthetics to your smile.

A bridge may be an ideal tooth replacement for a patient who can’t or doesn’t want to have surgery to place a dental implant.

Testimonial

All Their Technology Was Super Advanced.

I had a gold crown put in here, and was nervous about it because I’d had some emergency dental work in the past that made me scared to go back to the dentist. Everyone here was so nice, gentle, checking in regularly and going slowly and explaining what they were doing. All their technology was super advanced, they did a 3d model of my tooth, and their communication is excellent. The guy who runs the front desk is just stellar, probably the nicest medical coordinator I’ve run into. The lady who did my cleaning, Terry, was also lovely and really funny. Thank you everyone for taking good care of me.
